A Plague of Madness
The Strange Account of Extraordinary Events
in Winslow, Washington by G. F. Olson

This book proves the adage that truth is stranger than fiction.
As a Forest Service ranger, G. F. Olson was a first responder to the bizarre calamity that befell Winslow, Washington in 2010—an alleged “plague of madness.” While newspaper reports confirm that an incident did occur, Winslow residents never corroborated Olson’s account of those events, and his assertion that the outbreak was a “medieval pestilence” remains unsubstantiated. Olson’s prose is verbose, yet colorful and folksy, and the “true” story documented here remains a fascinating read despite Olson’s amateurish style. Originally self-published by Olson in December 2010, the book’s distribution was almost immediately halted by a court ordered injunction. An inexperienced publisher, Olson had failed to obtain permissions from the real people depicted in his tell-all book. A subsequent lawsuit filed by Pard Holloway and other residents of Winslow charged Olson with slander. G. F. Olson insisted his book was based on actual events, but under oath admitted that it contained a fair amount of speculation and conjecture. The court ruled against Olson. Unable to afford his mounting legal bills, Olson pulled his book from publication; he had sold a mere thirteen copies.

This is one of those original 13 books. It is signed by the author.
